As per the ICAR guidelines, the KVK is having following mandates for implementing its activities:
1. To undertake vocational
training for the farmers, farm women, rural youth and grass roots level
extension workers in the broad based agricultural production system.
2.To provide critical
skills so that the trainees may confidently use it to increase agricultural
productivity and become self reliant through gainful self employment.
3.To plan and refine
location specific technologies developed by research stations/SAUs and
blending the indigenous technical knowledge of farmers with the package
of technology evolved by the SAU/Research stations.
4.To conduct demonstrations
under LLPs and FLDs to increase the farmers confidence on the newly evolved
technology.
Streamlining the activities on above mandates, the KVK has, however, given special emphasis on the following themes:
I. Group based technology transfer programmes :
Organising farmers group growing identical crops or maintaining identical enterprises have yielded good response. This has helped the KVK to restructure the technological package based on the farmers feedback. Various groups that the KVK has organised are pomegranate growers group, goat farmers group, mushroom growers group, grape growers group, etc.
II. Information-cum-service centre
The required information on new technologies is being made available for the farmers coming to this centre. This information is readily supplied in the form of literature developed for circulation and project reports on various agro enterprises. Similarly certain inputs not easily available in the market are made available for the farmers that makes the farmers to adopt the technology without any difficulty. Besides this various agro clinical services like soil, water, leaf and petiole analysis is for effective nutrient utilisation and disease and pest analysis are also readily made available.
III. Self employment generating programmes
The KVK has devised
long durational training programmes that can guarantee higher incomes for
the rural youth. Such programmes have yielded good response since they
have become a critical need of the rural youth. Various self
employment generating programmes that have been started by our KVK are
goat rearing, poultry management, mushroom cultivation, nursery management,
basic course in photography , advanced tailoring, fruit and vegetable preservation,
bakery and confectionery, biopesticide and biofertiliser production.
